About MarathonNorco Aerospace
MarathonNorco Aerospace Inc. began in Wausau, Wisconsin in 1923. At the time, it operated under the name Marathon Battery Company as a producer of carbon-zinc dry batteries and cells. The company played a crucial role in both World War II and the Korean War, serving as an important supplier of military batteries.
In 1952, Marathon began producing nickel-cadmium batteries for the U.S. Army’s “Nike” missile program. This shift eventually led Marathon to enter the aviation industry, beginning to design batteries for aircraft applications. Marathon’s nickel-cadmium batteries were applied in the Air Force’s B-47 bomber fleet as well as many other military, commercial, and corporate aircraft. Furthermore, Marathon was behind the first batteries used to power satellites used in space missions such as Explorer, Pioneer, Midas, Courier, and many others.
In 1971, the company consolidated its many operations into a single headquarters in Waco, Texas, continuing to manufacture nickel-cadmium, magnesium, and carbon-zinc batteries. Marathon continued its growth into the 21st century, acquiring Christie Electric Corporation in 2000, and Norco, Inc. in 2003. The merger of these companies brought the new name MarathonNorco Aerospace, Inc. along with it. Today, at their Waco facility, MarathonNorco continues to manufacture their Micro Maintenance Superpower batteries, Christie charger/analyzers, mechanical and coupling devices. The company is ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100-D accredited as well as being FAA and EASA certified.
