About Piper Aircraft
Piper Aircraft first formed in 1927 as the Taylor Brothers Aircraft Manufacturing Company, established by Clarence Taylor and Gordon Taylor in New York. The company then moved to Bradford, Pennsylvania in 1929 after investments were offered from multiple businessmen. During the 1930’s, the company went bankrupt and William T. Piper purchased the company, retaining C. G. Taylor as president. In 1937, after a fire destroyed the Bradford Piper Factory, Piper moved the company to Pennsylvania and renamed it Piper Aircraft Corporation.
During World War II, Piper manufactured a number of aircraft and mounting radar antennas for the US armed forces. Leading up to the Korean War, Piper began to face a lul in aircraft production, just as many other manufacturers did as well with the end of the GA boom. The Korean War sparked more production, and new models were developed during this time. Their portfolio only continued to grow during the 1960’s leading up to the 2000’s. At the turn of the century, Piper faced various hardships and restructured their business. In the present, Piper has begun working with companies such as Fanmei Aviation Technologies and L3 Commercial Aviation for the development of more aircraft, thus turning to more successful endeavors.
