About Eaton Corporation
Eaton Corporation first began in 1911 when Joseph Eaton, Henning Taube, and Viggo Torbensen formed the Torbensen Gear and Axle Co. in New Jersey. In 1914, the company moved over to Ohio to take advantage of being closer to the growing automotive industry and incorporated the Torbensen Axle Company two years later. In 1917, the Republic Motor Truck Company acquired Torbensen Gear and Axle Co. and Eaton and Torbensen left to create the Eaton Axle Company two years later. After a merger with Standard Parts and its subsequent liquidation, Eaton went on to buy the Torbensen Axle Co. and renamed it to the Eaton Axle and Spring Company. Over the following years, Eaton began acquiring multiple businesses, diversifying their company and this led to a name change to Eaton Manufacturing in 1932. Leading up to the present, Eaton has acquired more businesses, widening their product portfolio and changing their name to Eaton Corporation in 1971. Currently, Eaton’s main focuses are Electrical and Industrial.
