About Embraer
Embraer was first established in 1969 as Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica, spearheaded by the Brazilian government in an effort to establish a domestic aircraft industry in the country. During their early history, Embraer primarily operated domestically and were provided various contracts by the government. In 1985, however, Embraer entered the global market with the Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia, a small aircraft. In the 1970’s, Embraer also began producing Piper aircraft for South America, sourcing parts locally. In the 1990’s, Embraer became a private company and held an initial public offering in 2000 on the NYSE and BM&F Bovespa stock exchanges, breaking away from their governmental establishment. During this time, Embraer began to widen their product portfolio, expanding into military, regional, and executive aircraft. In 2019, Boeing and Embraer established their joint ventures, Boeing Brasil - Commercial and Boeing Embraer - Defense.
